Join storyteller Lee-Ellen Marvin for stories and conversation about the environmental impact of our clothes. She'll tell a traditional folktale tale, a World War II memoir, and anecdotes collected from EVI neighbors about reused clothing. There will be a brief slideshow of EVI residents' up-cycled clothes, recommendations for finding clothing with low environmental impact, and a playful small group challenge.

Led by developmental psychologist and EcoVillage Ithaca resident, Kat Caldwell, we will learn how to create a life that is in deeper alignment with a more just and thriving world. In this 1.5-hour webinar, we will explore important individual-level changes we can make to contribute to a regenerative future for people and the planet. We will examine what scientists say are the most important changes to make in our lives, and choose those that most resonate. Then, we will commit to action steps that support the development of new habits. An online forum will be created for (optionally) following up and supporting one another in our commitments.

Through Witness to Injustice, we explore the shared history that non-native people rarely learn in school or other settings. This presentation helps participants deepen their understanding about the European colonization of Turtle Island and the denial of Indigenous peoples’ nationhood throughout U.S. history up to present time. We hope this program will stimulate deep discussion and reflection, and will point the way toward ongoing steps toward righting the wrongs which have been done.

Can stories help us think about community? Storyteller and folklorist Lee-Ellen Marvin will share a few carefully selected stories from folklore as well as lived experience at EcoVillage. The stories serve as springboards for a conversation about community experiences, tensions, and successes. The discussions will focus on:

• How folktales reflect community values

• Key social challenges of living in community

• Ways to enhance community experience through the arts

Activism, so essential to countering the rampant destruction of our common life by big money, has been shifting gradually from a self-sacrificing mindset with burnout tendencies to one that values joy, self-care, community, and solidarity. This shift also emphasizes the many ways that activism can engage each person’s unique skills and creativity. In this highly participatory circle, we will be inspired by various examples of this shift, especially from black feminism; practice skills that can make activism more sustainable; and support each other to step out of passivity into nurturing engagement.
