Barbara H. Chasin, Ph. D., is Professor Emerita of Sociology at Montclair State University (Montclair, New Jersey) and a resident with Richard Franke of Ecovillage at Ithaca since 2009. A long-time political activist, she participates in the local Ithaca area social justice movement. She is the author and co-author of several books and articles including Inequality and Violence in the United States: Casualties of Capitalism (2004). She and Richard Franke have co-authored several books and articles on environmental and development issues including Seeds of Famine: Ecological Destruction and the Development Dilemma in the West African Sahel (1980). They team-taught a course Globalization and Sustainability for 6 semesters at Montclair State. 

Richard W. Franke, Ph. D., is Professor Emeritus of Anthropology at Montclair State University. He is a board member of the Ecovillage at Ithaca FROG neighborhood cohousing cooperative and also works in the local Ithaca area social justice movement. He is author or co-author of numerous books and articles including with his Kerala colleague, Srikumar Chattopadhyay, Striving for Sustainability: Environmental Stress and Democratic Initiatives in Kerala (2006). He and Barbara Chasin have given presentations on EcoVillage at a number of venues. They recently coauthored the article "EcoVillage at Ithaca: Benefits and Challenges of Cohousing" for Green Horizon Magazine.
